Welcome to ShamelessVegan! I’m Bo owner of this blog, and the one behind the food and recipes shared here.
I share my life, my garden and my kitchen in Ontario, Canada with Luke-an unruly but amusing Golden Retrieve, Rob-my partner, and Dee-my wonderful Quarter Horse.
I’m a full-time blogger, web designer, amateur photographer, horseback rider and avid kayaker, to name a few of my passions. I’m also a lover of good food and good health.
Health, or lack of it, is what this blog is all about. After suffering for the last 10 or so years with hypertension (high blood pressure) and increasingly higher cholesterol levels, I decided to pursue ways to take control and reverse my deteriorating health.
About ShamelessVegan
ShamelessVegan came to life in my head and heart in 2012 as I pursued a road back to better health, and has now become a passionate journey. Vegan and vegetarian books have replaced ‘regular cookbooks’ on my bookshelves, I read food and healthy eating blogs almost every day and belong to a meatless Monday potluck dinner club.
Here’s what I (mostly) eat
My diet consists of mainly plant based foods. Most of my meals are vegetarian and/or vegan. Milk is nut or seed based, although I still indulge in Greek yogurt, and cheese. I occasionally eat local organic animal derived products, such as free range eggs, honey, and organic meat from a local farm. Hey, I’m still a work in progress.
I love desserts, and avoid making them with flour, egg, dairy or processed sugars. There are so many ways to enjoy a sweet dessert without using an unhealthy version. You’ll find lots of them here.
I have a philosophy that embraces learning and experimenting and sharing what works. So, while I have no formal accreditation regarding cooking, diets, or health, I’m happy to share what works for me as I learn to cook vegan/vegetarian food and pursue better health.
I firmly believe that if I can use a vegan/vegetarian diet to regain and maintain better health-particularly high blood pressure and high bad cholesterol, so can you.
I wish you bon apetit, and hope you enjoy this site and share what works (or doesn’t) for you.
I’d love for you to leave a comment and say hello! It would be great to connect with you on Google+, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. Let’s connect!
Cheers,
Bo
